the final stretch は「最後の競争路」のこと、つまりゴール直前のホームストレッチのことです。the home stretch や the finishing stretch とも言います。
confession は「白状、自白」などの意味があります。final confession は死ぬ前に行う「（罪の）最後の告解」です。
cessation は「停止、中止、休止」の意味です。
